Las Villas Akumal is my favorite place to go to unplug, reflect, and leave the world behind. If you must have hustle-bustle noise and commotion, you are about 45 minutes from 5th Ave in Playa and 20 minutes from the beaches of Tulum. For my needs – family-friendly, and laid back world traveler cosmopolitan vibe and 24-hour security. Good breakfast buffet is included and reasonably priced.
Fabulous secluded location within a short walk from overcrowded Akumal Beach. We booked a Junior Suite at an impressive rate. By far the best price for a room with a kitchenette in the area. We stopped at a Chedraui on the way to stock up on drinks and food. Our suite was basement level facing the beach-very easy access.
Would splurge on an ocean view for the balcony if the budget allows, as there is limited outdoor seating on the grounds apart from the beach/pool loungers. Jungle Fish next door has excellent food and drinks and can deliver to your room for an extra charge.
The beach directly in front of the hotel was rocky as others have stated. We snorkeled there several times in the mornings when the surf was calmest and found some decent areas. We found it comparable to snorkeling in parts of Half Moon bay.
Akumal Bay snorkeling was simply the best though, and don’t be scared to try it out from the negativity surrounding the buoys, rules, tours, etc. Just walk over decently early in the morning and set out on your own in front of Secrets. Swim out and around the buoyed areas. We saw several turtles within 30 minutes, in addition to coral, rays, and fish. Not crowded at all once in the water. We will be coming back here!
We came here for our anniversary and loved every minute, friendly staff with all the cozumel shore snorkeling and beach club recommendations, spacious room, very clean, close enough to amenities, lovely clean pool and the food was amazing, would recommend to anyone, we will be returning.
Excellent service and lovely staff. Claudia especially was accommodating and supportive when we encountered some minor issues. Food is average, but the rooms are spotless — Great place to see the turtles.
