America. As a European I have always dreamt of going to America. Not only to the United States, but both North and South America, the continent as a whole. I’ve crossed the Atlantic ocean once before, more specifically I went to Montreal to visit my sister who was on an exchange programme there. We went during the winter and can therefore say that I have experiences the Canadian winter. Cold. Very cold. Freezing even. But besides Montreal, there are plenty of places I would love to visit on the other side of the Atlantic. With no further ado, here are the five places that are on my American travel list!
1. New York, USA
Oh New York. I see photographs of New York on a daily basis as I scroll down my Instagram feed. The skyscrapers, Central Parks, Manhattan, the avenues, the 9/11 memorial centre, the Brooklyn bridge. There are just so many beautiful things to see in New York. Sometimes, because I have seen so many photographs of the city itself, I feel that I already know the city but I know for a fact that the day I’ll set foot in the city I’ll be amazed. New York is definitely the number one city I would love to visit in the near future. It’s just my boyfriend and I’s must-see cities in the United States.
2. California, USA
Another place I’d love to visit in the United States is California. There are no specific cities that I’d like to visit there, but it would be a must to visit both Los Angeles and San Francisco. What’s great about California is that the weather is amazing year around. Spending a couple of days by the beach and enjoy the weather would be perfect. San Francisco is definitely a fascinating city, with its out of the ordinary houses, it’s steep roads and of course the Golden Gates. I definitely see myself driving on that spectacular bridge!
3. The Caribbean Islands
White sand. Beaches. Sun. Blue sky. The Caribbean Islands is the spot for a very relaxing vacation, sipping cocktails and enjoying the perfect weather. It could also well be the perfect honeymoon getaway a lot of us are dreaming of. Because there are so many islands, it was simply impossible to hand pick just one. However, lately, I have seen some beautiful photographs of Turks and Caicos, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (love the name too), Guadeloupe and Saint Barthelemy. Maybe those would be the islands I would want to see most, and I’m pretty sure that a tour of the Caribbean Islands is more than possible.
Mexican food. Tacos. Quesadillas. Burritos. Enchiladas. You name it. I love Mexican food. Unfortunately I always seem to be doing the same kind of Mexican food whenever we do eat it at home. But I’m more than determine to change things up around the kitchen. I’m always looking for some delicious Mexican dishes, that is both in cooking books or through other cooking blogs. One of the main reasons why I’d love to go to Mexico is to be able to taste real Mexican food with all it’s flavours and colours. There’s just such a big variety of food there. I only just recently (about a year or two ago) found out about fish tacos, and they are simply delicious. To die for. It’s very different from chicken tacos. I also want to go to Central America to see how people live there. The culture is just so much different than in Europe and I’ve met some great Mexican people through my work and would very much like to see their country.
5. Machu Picchu, Peru
A few friends of mine have been to Machu Picchu in Peru, one UNESCO’s world’s heritage site, and the moment I saw their pictures and the incredible landscape I knew that it was a site that I very much wanted to discover myself. The high mountains and peaks, the dry-stone walls. This is such a unique landscape that I am sure photographs doesn’t even do this site justice. Even though getting there is quite a challenge, I am sure that the reward is breathtaking.
